Drs. Bankes earns AGD scholarship

The Academy of General Dentistry recently awarded Mackenzie "Kenzie" Bankes, a rising fourth-year dental student at Texas A&M College of Dentistry, the Dr. Chethan and Avani Chetty Scholarship. Soon-to-graduate dental hygiene students at Texas A&M College of Dentistry were honored May 8 for their accomplishments. They received pins and awards, marking the end of their coursework and the beginning of their careers. All 30 are scheduled to graduate May 22 and are expected to be licensed in late June. Read More

Double wins, double grins

Dr. Joshua Allen, oral pathology graduate student and graduate assistant in diagnostic sciences at Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas, has multiple reasons to smile. He was recently awarded both the prestigious Shafer Award from the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and A&M Dentistry’s annual Clinical Graduate Research Award.  Allen also graduates May 22 with a master’s in oral biology and a certificate in oral and maxillofacial pathology. Tadlock earns prestigious Brophy Award

Dr. Larry P. Tadlock, head of orthodontics at Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas, received the James E. Brophy Award April 30 at the American Association of Orthodontists’ annual session in Orlando, Florida. The award is given annually to an orthodontist who renders distinguished service to orthodontics and the AAO.  Tadlock, a graduate of the then-Baylor College of Dentistry Class of 1984, served as general chair of the 2022 AAO Annual Session. He also served as director of the American Board of Orthodontics from 2011 to 2020 and was ABO president from 2018 to 2019. Read More

End of an era: Miller will retire May 31 after more than 50 years at Texas A&M College of Dentistry

If anyone needs a new smile or a history lesson about Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas, Dr. Amp W. Miller III, professor and director of comprehensive dentistry, can provide both. The prosthodontist spent decades restoring and replacing missing and damaged teeth, and even longer studying and teaching dentistry.  Now, after 53 years as an A&M Dentistry faculty member and four years before that as a dental student at then-Baylor College of Dentistry, Miller will say goodbye to everyone on the Gaston Avenue campus. Miller will officially retire effective May 31 – his 79th birthday. Read More

Smiles we remember: Dr. Rolf G. “Buzz” Behrents

It's with great sadness Texas A&M College of Dentistry shares the passing of Dr. Rolf G. "Buzz" Behrents, former professor and chairman of orthodontics. He passed away April 24. Behrents served the dental college from 1998 to 2003, when it was known as Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry and later as Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry. He was known for a dedication to clinical excellence, research, and his passion for teaching, said Dr. Larry Tadlock, the head of orthodontics. Read More

Ringing in an Aggie tradition

A cherished Aggie tradition received a toothy touch April 22 at Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas when three soon-to-graduate students received their class rings on campus. Special arrangements were made this year to present A&M Dentistry students with their rings with their friends and family in attendance. Participation in Ring Day was voluntary. Read More

Tran awarded travel grant to AADOCR

Gwendelyn Tran, a second-year dental student at Texas A&M College of Dentistry, was among 37 recipients of travel grants from The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research. Each grantee was recognized March 25 at the opening ceremony of the association's 55th annual meeting. Read More
