Showing gratitude
The Community Outreach Office in public health sciences at Texas A&M College of Dentistry hosted its Annual Preceptor Appreciation Luncheon Aug. 22 during the 2025 Southwest Dental Conference at Hilton Anatole in Dallas.
The long-standing tradition—now more than 25 years old—honors the clinicians, adjunct professors and faculty members who volunteer time to mentor dental students in both clinical and community settings. Their guidance plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of oral health professionals, said Dr. Hoda Abdellatif, director of community outreach and clinical associate professor.
Dr. Lily T. García, dean, made a special appearance and shared her appreciation for the preceptors’ commitment.
“The preceptor dentists I met were enthusiastic and committed,” she said. “One even mentioned he hoped to work in academics in the future.”
The luncheon brought together a diverse group of preceptors:
- Private practice clinicians, who open their doors to students for hands-on mentorship.
- Adjunct faculty, who supervise students at outreach events such as Texas Mission of Mercy, Mission Arlington, Arlington Dental Health, and Health Resources.
- Faculty volunteers, who support students in delivering care to underserved communities.
