Students place fourth in Dental Olympics

Their days are usually spent learning oral anatomy. Still, Texas A&M College of Dentistry dental students took a break March 29 to compete with other dental students around the state in the annual Dental Olympics. They placed a disappointing fourth, failing for the second year to recapture their 2023, but having fun was the main objective.

Texas A&M placed first in women’s basketball and third in men’s basketball. Thomas Leong and Kai Money won second place in the pickleball competition.

“The respect we were shown by other schools and future colleagues, despite the competitive nature of Dental Olympics itself, makes me glad to be surrounded by a profession of genuine, kind people, said Gabbie Huggins, third-year sports chair and Student National Dental Association community service chair.

About 50 students from the dental college participated, mostly first- through third-year students, because many fourth-year students were focused on ADEX examinations.

“Also, we had a great representation from the D1 class, which is atypical given the demanding nature of their didactic courses,” Huggins. “I am very grateful for everyone who was able to participate this year and the memories we made.”
