College of Dentistry continues to support healthy smiles with MHA grant
More than 600 students in Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District and some in the surrounding communities have been seen this semester, thanks to a $210,000 grant that allows Texas A&M College of Dentistry faculty and students to provide dental health education, screenings, oral health kits and oral health care, including sealants, on 10 campuses during the 2025-26 school year. That includes students in eight elementary schools and two middle schools. Read More

Expanding their skills
Several area dental assistants were on Texas A&M College of Dentistry's campus Nov. 15 for the hands-on portion and final day of continuing education to learn applications of pit and fissure sealants. It was the first time Texas A&M College of Dentistry offered the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners-approved course, and the first two sessions were interactive webinars earlier in the week. Dental assistants’ scope of care is broad and growing
Numerous accounts of dental assisting’s roots as a profession credit New Orleans dentist C. Edmund Kells with employing his wife in 1885. So helpful was her work that he soon hired the first full-time assistant, Malvina Cueria, a teenager, in his practice. While it may seem unimportant today, two women working in a dental office was revolutionary in the late-19th century. Convention dictated that women didn’t receive dental treatments without spousal permission, but the presence of two women in Kells’ office offered comfort and security to many women in his community. Kells’ helpers were so popular, other dentists soon advertised that “ladies in attendance” were working in their practices for the safety of female patients. Read More

Two Texas A&M College of Dentistry dental students who participated in a 10-week summer research internship in 2024 had the opportunity to present their research projects at last week’s American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research conference in New York. Read More

Empowering smiles
With the help of a $120,000 grant from the Metrocrest Hospital Authority, Texas A&M School of Dentistry will open two new oral health programs in Farmers Branch and Carrollton this fall. Read More

Going digital
Thanks to a new software, developed through a collaboration between Texas A&M School of Dentistry and the College of Engineering, the school’s sealant program will soon be able to serve the Dallas community more efficiently and with greater effectiveness. Read More
