Carlson retires from TAMBCD

|

Dr. David Carlson has dedicated more than 40 years to research on craniofacial growth and development. Half of that career has been spent at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry, where, in addition to research, Carlson served in several teaching and administrative roles at the dental school and within Texas A&M Health Science Center.

In 2014, Carlson returned to TAMBCD after 11 years as TAMHSC’s vice president for research, during which time he also served as dean of the health science center’s graduate school of biomedical sciences.

Carlson, a Regents Professor, joined the dental school’s faculty in 1993 and filled various roles as biomedical sciences chair, associate dean for research and graduate studies and director of the college’s Center for Craniofacial Research and Diagnosis in its early years.

His work in basic, applied and clinical research led him to pursue answers regarding myriad factors that can impact oral health and function. Special interests include the temporomandibular joint, the impact of genetic and environmental factors on craniofacial growth and development and the outcome of dentofacial treatment.
