The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents recently awarded Dr. Bob Hutchins professor emeritus status for his contributions to the college’s biomedical sciences department.

Hutchins retired in 2014 after nearly 30 years at the dental school. In 1985, he joined the faculty of the college’s Department of Anatomy, later incorporated into the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Active in curriculum development, he taught and directed numerous predoctoral and graduate courses, including neuroscience, gross anatomy, functional head and neck anatomy, and sensory neurobiology and pain.

While at TAMBCD, Hutchins published An Interactive Color Atlas of the Human Skull, adopted by the American Dental Association and other schools. A perennial Teacher of the Year nominee, Hutchins received the American Dental Education Association/Colgate-Palmolive Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011.

Prior to coming to the dental school, Hutchins worked as a research associate and postdoctoral fellow for Louisiana State University’s anatomy department. He received a doctorate degree in anatomy from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1983.
