Bush Jones-Sprenger Scholarship origins
The scholarship fund dates back to 1979 and was created in memory of Dr. Bush Jones, dean of the dental school from 1916 to 1918. Bush Jones Jr. and Albert Jones established the fund as a way to recognize their father’s leadership in dental education in the Southwest.
In 1989, the parents of Dr. Donald Sprenger, a 1976 alumnus, separately donated $100,000 in memory of their son to establish the Dr. Donald H. Sprenger Scholarship Fund.
Since then, the funds have been merged to create what is known as the Bush Jones-Sprenger Scholarship, providing financial awards to dental students with past academic achievement and demonstrated potential for success.
