Reliability and applicability of 3-D measurements of posterior teeth

|

To obtain an accurate diagnosis, orthodontists who treat malocclusions — improper bites — rely on precise measurements, often including 3-D imaging techniques. These measurements provide information that is necessary to determine an effective treatment plan.

In this study, conducted in the Department of Orthodontics at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry, researchers compared two methods for visualizing and measuring premolars and molars, the teeth toward the back of the mouth. The more reliable these measurements, the more beneficial the resulting treatment.

Contributions to this field of study will result in improved patient diagnoses and more effective dental and orthodontic treatment.
