Dr. Ronald Woody, professor emeritus and retired director of Texas A&M College of Dentistry’s prosthodontic residency program, died on Monday, Aug. 26 at Baylor University Medical Center.

Dr. Woody, who formally retired in 2013 after a 30-year career at the college, was a devoted husband of 60 years to his wife, Jan, and a loving father to their sons. He also was an avid sailor and enjoyed landscaping and traveling. Even in retirement, he continued to spend many hours at the college working on projects, including the annual Dr. Jesse T. Bullard Lectureship, which celebrated its 15th year this year.

Early in his career at the dental school, Dr. Woody helped develop the Department of Restorative Sciences’ fixed and removable prosthodontics curriculum and went on to design, launch and direct the college’s undergraduate implant dentistry program. Before coming to the college in 1984, Woody served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps for 21 years. He graduated from the Marquette University School of Dentistry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and grew up in Canada.
