Smiles we remember: Dr. Fred Williams
Students cycled in and out of Dr. Fred Williams’ classroom like clockwork over the 40 years he taught at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry, but the subject they learned under his tutelage – physiology – remained a mainstay of the preclinical curriculum. His teaching skill consistently prepared dental students to score high on part 1 of the National Board Dental Exam. Dental hygiene students also learned volumes with him as their course director for a two-semester biomedical sciences course.
He retained teaching as his primary focus from the time he joined the faculty in 1972 until his official retirement in 2005, while continuing at the college on a part-time basis until 2012.
The news of his passing on Aug. 15 saddened alumni, faculty, staff and students who appreciated his warmth and professional contributions to the dental school for many years.
