Dental students win coveted ADA scholarships.

Each year, approximately 50 second-year dental students nationwide are awarded predoctoral scholarships from the American Dental Association Foundation. This year, two Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry students received the honor.

D2 Elisabeth Creasman received the ADA Foundation Predoctoral Dental Student Scholarship, and D2 Tyson Petersen received the ADA Foundation Underrepresented Minority Dental Student Scholarship. Each $2,500 award is based on academic achievement.

“These are highly competitive scholarships,” says Dr. Jack Long, associate dean for student affairs, who submitted applications on behalf of Creasman and Petersen. “Applicants are compared and contrasted with students at every dental school in the country.” The ADA does not necessarily award a scholarship to a student at every institution, further ramping up the competition.

“Our two recipients’ stories and accomplishments are pretty impressive,” Long says. “They are solid citizens here in the dental school.”
