Women Who STEAM
Dr. Ernie Lacy, associate dean for student affairs, recently was honored with a Women Who STEAM award for her leadership in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
Lacy was one of nine women celebrated by the Dallas Chapter of The Links, Inc. at the group’s awards luncheon April 30 at the Belo Mansion. The awards, in their inaugural year, were presented to exceptional professional women who have had a positive impact in their respective STEAM fields.
Since joining Texas A&M College of Dentistry in 1994, Lacy has served as director of academic programs, director of student services, director of student development, and executive director of student development and multicultural affairs. She has been instrumental in helping disadvantaged students make strides toward realizing a career path in the dental profession and securing funding for related programs. By mid-2022, her efforts will have brought in nearly $13.5 million in grant support to strengthen the college’s student and faculty diversity. The Center of Excellence, which touts its game-changing Bridge to Dentistry, continues its role in academic enrichment activities and diversity-related outreach.
Before pursuing dentistry, Lacy taught high school math and science for 17 years. She earned her dental degree from the college in 1994 and advanced education in general dentistry in 1996.
