Dental hygiene program represented at career fair
Representatives of Texas A&M School of Dentistry’s dental hygiene program attended a career fair Feb. 2 at St. Philip and St. Augustine Catholic Academy. Dozens of organizations came together at the East Dallas school to teach kids about a variety of potential career paths.
Clinical Assistant Professor Ariana Mendoza spoke with students about her job as a dental hygienist and teacher, answered questions and provided information on oral health care.
“I’m informing students about dental hygiene, helping get that occupation out there,” she said. “It’s been really nice so far.”
Eighth grader Mya Ibarra, who attended the career fair with classmates, said she was considering doing something in the medical field when she grows up, and dental hygiene is a career path in which she’s interested.
“I could do dental hygiene or I could be a nurse,” she said. “There’s a lot of different and interesting jobs out there.”
“Whether you’re a dental hygienist or a nurse, you have to like working with people,” Mendoza advised. “If you like helping people, that’s the right path for you.”
