The journey begins
One hundred thirty-five of Texas A&M College of Dentistry's new students donned white coats today, marking their entry into the clinical phase of dental education and assuming the responsibilities associated with patient care. The white coat is a symbol of the commitment each is making to the dental profession and their pledge to provide the highest standards of oral health and patient care.
Back to school with good oral health
Texas A&M College of Dentistry was at Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District's annual back-to-school event Aug. 2. Four dental students and two dental hygiene students provided oral health education and information to 133 children and 165 adults.
Starting the school year with healthy smiles
Nonprofit Union Gospel Mission hosted The Timothy Project on July 25, a community-wide back-to-school event to benefit women and children in UGM’s The Center of Hope shelter. Dallas County Dental Society Foundation provided 200 oral health kits and educational materials, and Elizabeth Pan, a third-year dental student at Texas A&M College of Dentistry, helped distribute them.
College of Dentistry receives $210,000 grant from Metrocrest Hospital Authority
Texas A&M College of Dentistry’s Department of Public Health Sciences recently received a $210,000 grant from Carrollton-based Metrocrest Hospital Authority to continue the Empowering Smiles Oral Health Initiative Program, which launched last year. The dental college received $120,000 in 2024.
Providing outreach and education
Third-year dental students Michelle Wu, Nidhi Tanwar and Juliet Pridgen distributed 288 oral hygiene kits and shared information about Texas A&M College of Dentistry and its services and clinics during Rep. Jasmine Crockett's 3rd Annual Back-to-School Resource Fair on July 26 at The Shops at RedBird in southern Dallas. Crockett, D-Texas, didn't attend, but between 500 and 600 people were there, said Dana Acton of A&M's Federal Relations Office.
Inspiring the next generation
The Community Outreach Office of Texas A&M College of Dentistry hosted the second session of the Future Dentist Summer Camp on July 26, welcoming 13 high school students from Dallas-Fort Worth. The session, led by Dr. Matthew Kesterke, assistant professor in orthodontics, focused on forensic dentistry.
Compassionate care in action
At Allan Saxe Dental Clinic of nonprofit Mission Arlington, fourth-year dental students of Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas volunteered July 26 to provide free tooth extractions for underserved patients. Under the supervision of Dr. Dax Sinn, adjunct professor in public health sciences, students gained hands-on clinical experience while delivering essential care.

As students and parents grab backpacks and pencils before the 2025-26 school year, Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in Dallas wants everyone to start with healthy smiles. Dental and dental hygiene students will be at Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District’s Back-to-School Fest on Saturday, Aug. 2, providing oral health education and information to all ages.

Serving smiles in Abilene
Texas A&M College of Dentistry dental students participated in the Texas Mission of Mercy event July 18–19 in Abilene, working under the supervision of Dr. Jon Williamson, adjunct professor in public health sciences. They provided care at no charge to underserved residents. Drs. Partha Mukherji, clinical assistant professor in public health sciences, and Susan Jolliff, adjunct professor in public health sciences, also provided support to students.
Miller and Cowen named Teachers of the Year
The Class of 2025 at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in Dallas named Dr. Amp W. Miller III and Professor Brandy S. Cowen Teachers of the Year. The two led the procession at graduation May 25.
Learning to preserve smiles never ends

The dental hygiene event was July 18-20 at Gaylord Texan & Convention Center in Grapevine.
