Compassionate care close to home
At Garland Free Dental and Medical Clinic, third- and fourth-year dental students volunteered Sept. 27, providing dental services to about 100 patients in need. From oral health education, prophy and extractions, students delivered care from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Clemetson, clinical faculty member in comprehensive dentistry.

College of Dentistry honors staff with awards
Texas A&M College of Dentistry hosted a staff awards ceremony Sept. 25 to honor several employees who not only work hard, but who also are dedicated to the school’s mission of providing academic excellence, trailblazing research and community-centered care and service. “Sometimes it is easy to forget how well offices and programs run until you lose someone…,” said Dr. Lily T. García, dean. “We want to spend time to celebrate, thank you and show our appreciation.”
Bringing oral health education and care to the community
The school year is in full swing, and Texas A&M College of Dentistry students are busy volunteering at community health events. Here's where they were Sept. 13: Several dental students were at Mission Arlington for a day of teeth extractions, under the supervision of Dr. Dax Sinn, an adjunct faculty member in public health sciences. Fourth-year students volunteering included Austin Bond, Youngju Oh, Adriana Vega, Armando Ferandez, Bahram Soroushi and Alix Matthew. Third-year student volunteers included Karina Perez-Estrada, Saad Mohammed, Van Nguyen and Jacob Williams.

Healthy smiles in Rowlett
Texas A&M College of Dentistry dental student Isabella Mitri and dental hygiene student Zoe Spataro provided oral health information Sept. 13 at Zion Baptist Church Health Fair in Rowlett. They, along with Sukhmani Nanda, a predental student from The University of Texas at Dallas, gave away toothbrushes, stickers and coloring pages.
Saving your smile in the golden years
Grandma with dentures - a stereotype popular in movies and television - doesn’t need to be the reality for most seniors. Proper dental care and a bit of knowledge can ensure your smile stays healthy and real for a lifetime. Professor Lisa Mallonee, a dual-registered dental hygienist and dietitian at Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas, said good dental care extends beyond brushing twice a day and flossing.
García named to Women in Business list
Dr. Lily T. García, dean of Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in Dallas, was celebrated Aug. 21 as one of Dallas Business Journal’s Women in Business honorees this year. García, who’s also a prosthodontist, was among 30 North Texas women chosen from more than 280 nominees.
Texas A&M College of Dentistry names two leaders
Drs. Erica and Fabricio Teixeira joined Texas A&M College of Dentistry in July in leadership roles. Erica Teixeira takes the leadership reins of comprehensive dentistry and Fabricio Teixeira is the dental college’s new head of endodontics.

Students from Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas screened 49 people for oral health problems Aug. 23 at the annual Community Health & Wellness Fair at the Islamic Association of Lewisville & Flower Mound. Dental and dental hygiene students screened attendees of all ages for oral health issues
Texas A&M College of Dentistry salutes 120th anniversary Oct. 3
Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas marks the end of its yearlong 120th anniversary, which will culminate with a Boots & Burs celebration Friday, Oct. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving. “Boots” is a nod to the dental college’s Texas roots, and a “bur” is a common dental instrument.
End of an era: Longtime library associate turns a page
Cheryl Howell had a plan when she started working as a library clerk at what's now Texas A&M College of Dentistry. “I was only going to be here for a little while, and then I was going to go back to get my bachelor's (degree) in nutrition,” she said. Luckily, Howell stayed. And after 44 years of cataloging, researching and providing either academic or emotional support - often both at the same time - to anyone who entered the library, "Ms. Cheryl" is closing this chapter and retiring today. The library associate who earned a President's Meritorious Service Award from the Texas A&M system in 2019 and is known for her warm smile won't be forgotten.
